The Green Man of the Woods emerges not from myth, but from the marrow of the land itself.
I sculpted him as a sentinel, one who does not wait to be remembered in carvings or
ceremony, but who walks among us when the balance tips too far.
He grips his staff close to his chest, as though it grew from within him, an extension of his
purpose, not a tool but a vow. His form is rough, asymmetrical, shaped by time and terrain.
He carries no weapon, only presence, yet it is enough.
When he appears, it is not in peace, but in warning. He is the forest’s reckoning. A figure
who bears the marks of storms, droughts, and footpaths that should never have been carved.
His cloak is torn, his limbs are uneven, but his stance is unwavering.I see him as the voice of a silenced ecology.
Stepping forward when the trees can no longer speak, when the soil grows thin, when the air forgets its scent. He does not plead. He does not ask. He simply stands, unyielding, between harm and what is sacred.
I regularly talk with the Green Man when I am alone in nature. I ask him to use me to help
humans live in harmony with the earth. He is there, by the river, the bird in flight or my excitement to see a bat in my garden
